For the past two years, we’ve been helping Solitude Resort create a high volume of marketing videos for their online promotional efforts. This season, we decided to structure the videos into two different campaigns: “Uniquely Solitude, and “My Solitude”. In this post, we’ll be showing the videos produced for the “Uniquely Solitude” campaign.
“Uniquely Solitude” was to be a series of short stories about what makes Solitude a unique place. If you’ve ever been there, it certainly has a feel to it that makes it different from any other ski area. The main thing you’ll notice is that you never wait in a lift line. The first story we told for this campaign was about Solitude’s Yurt. The Yurt is a dining experience in which the guests snowshoe up to a European-style Yurt and sit down to one of the most gourmet meals you can get anywhere in Utah. It truly is one of the most unique places to have dinner that we’ve ever seen.
The next installment of this series was about Solitude’s own Honeycomb Canyon. Honeycomb Canyon contains some of the (if not the most) extreme in-bounds skiing terrain in the lower 48. There aren’t many resorts that have anything close to this. When we arranged a powder day to film this segment, we went up with two of the resorts owners (Dave and Scott DeSeelhorst) and professional skiers Brody Leven and Caroline Gleich. It was a refreshing and fun experience to have the owners of the resort along with us as we tried to get into closed areas to shoot in untracked snow. Since they sign the paychecks of the ski patrollers, it proved to be easier than normal.
The third video of the series was to be about the Village at Solitude. A fun, peaceful, and ski-in/ski-out experience for families, it truly is a beautiful place.
For the final installment of this series, we chose to tell the “Solitude Philosophy”. As amazing as this place is, some people wonder why nobody ever goes there. Well, the answer is simple: that’s how they (it is a family owned and operated company) like it. And that’s how they want to keep it. Because in the words of owner Gary DeSeelhorst “In this world, there needs to be a place where one can come and experience Solitude”.
